Dear Dobbs Ferry Community Member,
On May 21st, the 2013-2014 school budget passed by a vote of 433 to 189. The 70% “yes” vote will enable the District to continue to provide an outstanding education to all of our students within a sound financial framework.
The Dobbs Ferry community also passed Proposition No. 2, authorizing the District to establish a “District-wide Capital Improvements Reserve Fund” to be used for facilities improvements in the future. The proposition passed by more than a 2-1 margin of 455 to 161 votes. Moving forward, any expenditure of monies from the Fund must be approved by the community with a subsequent vote.
Residents also re-elected Michael Goldman (428 votes) and Meg Lauer (412 votes) to the Board of Education, as well as newcomer Louis Schwartz who received the most votes totaling 441. They will each serve three-year terms. Their new term begins July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2016. Congratulations to all. The District looks forward to working with them over the next several years. We also want to express our appreciation to outgoing Board of Education President Dr. Jeffrey O’Donnell for his many years of service to our community and our schools. Dr. O’Donnell has been on the Board for five consecutive terms and has been a champion of education for our School District and a positive force in growing Dobbs Ferry’s reputation as a leader in global education and technology. We wish him the very best and hope that he will remain an active member of our school family.
Most importantly, thank you to our wonderful school community for your ongoing support. The school budget results are very gratifying and affirm the community’s strong commitment to the Dobbs Ferry Schools and excellence in education.
