Student Teaching and Fieldwork/Observations
Thank you for your interest in the Dobbs Ferry School District for your supervised student teaching experience. Our district offers an exemplary environment for aspiring educators to cultivate their professional practice. Please use the form below to request placement for the following:
● Student fieldwork/observations
● Student teaching/practicum
● Administrative internship
To be eligible for placement, candidates must:
(1) Be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university teacher preparation program (or related service) and must provide a letter from the institution verifying eligibility;
(2) Obtain a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE legislation effective July 1, 2001. Please visit the New York State Department of Education website for information on the procedure for obtaining fingerprint clearance.
Pursuant to Article VI (G) of the Dobbs Ferry United Teacher contract, the assignment and approval of student, intern, and/or practicum teachers shall be made through the Superintendent's office and shall be on a voluntary basis by the cooperating teacher. The regular classroom teacher is responsible for the class at all times. Additionally, student teachers, interns, and/or practicum teachers must comply with the regulations set forth in Board of Education Policy 5432.
If approved, student teachers are integrated into a highly qualified faculty where mentorship and ongoing professional development are central to our mission.
● Deadlines for fall placements is July 15 and for spring placements is Nov. 30.
● For observation hours, please give us at least three (3) weeks notice.
