ENGLISH
The English Department at Dobbs Ferry High School is dedicated to developing critical thinking and communication skills at all grade levels. Courses are designed to meet the needs of learners through the use of the International Baccalaureate and the Common Core Standards. Our goal is to challenge students with diverse literature, varied assessments, and the latest technology in order to prepare them for the 21st Century.ELL
English Language Learning (ELL) and ELL support courses are for students who are learning English as a second or other language and/or are new or recently arrived to the United States. Students are given opportunities to use English in real and meaningful situations. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are developed through project-based activities, literature and non-fiction study, language-building activities, and cultural awareness. Number of classes and level of support are determined by a New York State examination and teacher recommendation.
