Message from the Principal

  • John Welcome to Dobbs Ferry High School!

We are proud to share that we are a National Blue Ribbon School (2020) and that this is our twenty-sixth year of being authorized as an IB World School. DFHS is especially unique in that we are an “IB for All” public high school that is authorized in both the IB Middle Years Program (2016) and IB Diploma Program (1998). We were also the first high school in Westchester County to receive authorization. As a high-performing IB World School, we are dedicated to maximizing the potential of all students by providing a curriculum that promotes a global perspective, service learning, and international mindedness.

Our academic program is grounded in the IB mission of inspiring students to “think globally and act locally.” All students at DFHS fully access the IB MYP and complete an IB Personal Project during their sophomore year. The MYP Personal Project (PP) is the culminating experience of the IB MYP and draws upon the skills that our students develop in grades 6-10 to make a positive difference in a specific area of interest and need. The MYP Personal Project also serves as the foundation for service learning for all students in grades 9-12.

In addition, all students at DFHS continue to successfully access the IB Diploma Program and over 35% of our students pursue the full IB Diploma each year. All students also enroll in at least two IB Diploma Program courses prior to graduation with an average of four IB DP courses per student. The IB program, coupled with elective options in areas such as science research, psychology, business, film, music and art, enables our students to develop the necessary skills to be successful in college, the workforce, and beyond.

Our number one goal is for students to leave the building each day feeling that they have been challenged, engaged, and encouraged. Our numerous programs, along with an exceptional faculty and staff, allow us to achieve this goal. As always, please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
