START TIMES:
Period 1 begins promptly at 8:12 am.
Period 2 begins promptly at 9:00 am. (8:54 am on Wednesday)REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES
Each time a student is absent, parents/guardians must call the attendance office at 693- 1742 or send an email to hsattendance@dfsd.org, to update the absence. Additionally, the student MUST submit written documentation to the attendance office, signed by their parent or guardian, which explains the reason for the absence, on the day s/he returns to school. If the school is not notified by the parent within 24 hours, the absence will be recorded as a “cut.”REQUESTING EARLY DISMISSAL
If a student needs to leave school, s/he must provide a written request from her/his parent or guardian stating the reason why permission is requested. Students are NOT to leave campus for any reason (except during lunch periods) without permission.EXCUSABLE REASONS FOR ABSENCE
Sickness
Sickness or death in family
Religious holidays
Dental and medical appointments
Approved school-sponsored trips
Visits to collegesOTHER REASONS ARE NOT EXCUSABLE
To earn course credit, a student must attend each class a minimum of 90% of the time the class meets during the school year. EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES CONTRIBUTE TO THE ATTENDANCE AVERAGE.

Springhurst Attendance Procedures for Parents

Grades K-2: 8:15am - 3:00pm
Grades 3-5: 8:45am - 3:30pmREPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES
Parents/guardians are required to notify the school if their child is going to be absent or late by 8:30 a.m. Please send an e-mail to springhurstattendance@dfsd.org and your child’s teacher. If you are unable to send an e-mail, please call the school attendance office at (914) 693-1503 ext. 5. Please include your child’s name, grade and teacher, as well as the date and reason for absence or lateness.REQUESTING EARLY DISMISSAL
