Since 2016, Dobbs Ferry Middle School has offered the Middle Years Programme to all students.  The IB Middle Years Program is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary program.  Rather than concentrating only on content knowledge, students' intellectual and social development is the focus of the MYP.

The MYP insists upon the thorough study of various disciplines and encourages students to:

            • see the interrelatedness of disciplines
            • appreciate other cultures, as well as understand one's own history and traditions
            • develop admiration for the elegance and richness of human expression
            • learn to communicate effectively in one's own language as well as in a second language
            • become competent in the use of informational technology, acquire a genuine love of learning and develop disciplined habits of mind and body that will guide their young adulthood

Young adolescents need to see the relevancy in what they are learning and be able to make connections between the different content areas.  This belief is a cornerstone of middle school philosophy and one that is supported by years of research.  The MYP aligns with this philosophy and provides the framework and training necessary for teachers to raise our program to a higher level.

The MYP is designed specifically for grades 6-10. The common language and central elements of the MYP provide a strong bridge between the middle and high school experiences.  It also increases the professional dialogue among the faculties of both schools.

The Dobbs Ferry School District is one of the top school districts in Westchester County and our IB program sets us apart from the rest.  We are committed to providing a high-quality education for all students through our implementation of the Middle Years Program.
