Welcome to Kindergarten!

My name is Doug Distefano. This is my 24TH year teaching and my 19th year at Springhurst. I have taught second grade, fourth grade and kindergarten. I have learned one important lesson in twenty-one years of teaching: every child learns at his/her own pace, when he/she is developmentally and socially ready to do so. My role as a teacher is one of facilitator, providing the right questions and support so that when the child is ready the resources are available for him/her to learn. I believe in socially, co-constructed learning, in which the students and teacher work together to create meaning.
