Hi, my name is Kara Walker and I am the Reading Specialist here at Springhurst.  I have been teaching 17 years with 10 of those years as a Reading Specialist.  Prior to that, I was a classroom teacher and taught Kindergarten, first, second, and fifth grades.  When a student tells me he or she doesn't like reading, my response always is that they"just haven't found the right thing to read yet."  Therefore, I have devoted myself to taking students on a journey to uncover their reading interests while teaching them how to become better readers.
